Craft, Design & American Culture

Areas of Expertise

I enjoy exploring the shifting relationship between craft, design, and American culture, especially as expressed in jewelry, metalwork, and ceramics. Thanks to my long experience with the encyclopedic collection of American art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and through independent projects for other museums, I conduct research and direct projects on topics dating from the colonial era to the present.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions on contemporary craft, jewelry, and decorative arts are my specialty, whether they survey a period of time or focus on a single artist. As my recent exhibition, L’Affichomania: The Passion for French Posters, demonstrates, I am always ready to tackle new subject matter.

Publications

Catalogues have a life that extend far beyond the temporal nature of museum exhibitions and must be produced with the highest scholarly standards.

Lectures & Workshops

Communication is an essential part of my professional practice, and I enjoy connecting with an audience using high quality images, well-organized content, and an approachable manner drawing on my expertise in topics from silver and jewelry to the Gilded Age and contemporary craft.
